Young spines

How soon should a child be adjusted? Can a child be too young to be adjusted?

These questions are often asked by parents and grandparents. A growing and developing spine is very important to care for, in that we all want what is best for our children. A saying I share to some is, “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.” Your child’s spine will not magically straighten or become aligned at some specific age.

Why would a child’s spine need adjusting? Some children have conditions such as scoliosis, but even a normal young spine finds lots of challenges in daily life: Children now are engaged in sports at an early age, and many are playing in multiple sports. Carrying heavy backpacks, working at a computer or tablet, the demands of school – all of these contribute to mechanical stress on their spines.

To have the opportunity to care for the health of a child is a special gift. Childhood can be summarized with just two words: “opportunity” and “potential.” Children have an incredible ability to learn, absorb, grow, and change.

To answer the initial question, it’s never too soon to introduce your children to the benefits of the chiropractic lifestyle:  subluxation-free, a fully-functioning nervous system, a balanced diet, regular exercise, and a positive mental attitude! Chiropractic adjustments are safe, effective, non-invasive, and drug-free – an excellent way to unlock your child’s potential for great health.
